Welcome to Synod 2011

This generation has witnessed a remarkable surge in the availability of real-time information in recent years. Expectedly, the capacity to effectively deploy Information Communication Technology (ICT) to achieve organizational missions and visions is largely defining the well-managed communities and institutions of the 21st century.
It is therefore my great pleasure to welcome you to this specially dedicated synod website of the Diocese of Abuja (Anglican Communion). I am especially delighted that anglicansynodabuja.org is envisioned to host 2011 Synod news and events as well as records of the past and subsequent Synods.
Nature and Purpose of Synod

In the Anglican Communion, a Diocesan Synod consists of all Priests and elected members of the Laity who gather together within a defined period of time to prayerfully deliberate on contemporary Ecclesiastical and secular issues. They thereafter communicate the stand of the Diocese in a communiqué signed by the Diocesan Bishop and Synod Secretary.
The Diocesan Bishop proposes the issues to be focused on through his presidential address (the Bishop’s Charge). He also assigns responsibilities and functions to relevant participants, including invited guests from other Dioceses, and presides over the synod sessions.
The presentation of the Bishop’s Charge is usually the highpoint of the synod. The Bishop’s Charge is in fact the fountain from which all other deliberations and issues flow. Very important dignitaries within the diocesan’s sphere of influence are usually invited to grace the occasion and support the vision of the Bishop.
